Producer description of "Weingut Jul. Ferdinand Kimich"

The winery "Jul. Ferd. Kimich" is located in the municipality of Deidesheim (Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. It was founded in 1758 by Andreas Kimich, a wine cooper who immigrated from Alsace. In 1949, Joachim Arnold married into the family. Today, the business is run by the seventh and eighth generations of the family, Franz Arnold and his son Matthias. The vineyards cover ten hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Grainhübel, Herrgottsacker, Kalkofen, Kieselberg, Leinhöhle, Mäushöhle and Paradiesgarten (Deidesheim), Linsenbusch and Reiterpfad (Ruppertsberg), as well as Pechstein and Ungeheuer (Forst). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (70%), Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and Scheurebe, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Regent. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised according to ecological principles. In the two-hundred-year-old wine cellar, the wines are matured in large wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks. Around 70,000 litres of wine are produced annually, 70% of which is dry. Sparkling wines, bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (marc, brandy matured in barrels for five years) are also offered.
