The winery "K + K Kirnbauer" is located in the municipality German Kreutz
in the DAC area Mittelburgenland
(Austria) in the midst of the company's own vineyards. The family business was taken over by Walter and Irmgard Kirnbauer in 1975. The next generation Markus and Alexandra are already working in the company. The vineyards cover 38 hectares of vineyards, which are scattered in the vineyards Baumfeld, Gartenäcker, Goldberg
, Hochfeld, Hölzl, Hölzläcker, Mitterberg, Neuberg, Pallischkreuz, Rohrbrunn, Satz, Siglosgrund, Steinriegel and Weiselkreuz. They are 90% with the red varieties Blaufränkisch
, Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, the rest planted with the white varieties Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The quality criteria in the vineyard are high density, a short pruning
with a low number per floor, thin out
(Green harvest) for yield reduction and intensive foliage care
, The non-invasive
The motto of the house is: The less you move the wine, the more he will thank you.
The fruity white wines ripen for several months in stainless steel tanks. The strong red wines undergo the malolactic fermentation in large oak barrels and then ripen in it for another year. The top red wines, however, are aged for at least 18 months in barrique barrels. These are partly made of oak wood, which originates from own forest of the Deutschkreutzer district Girm. The barriques are made several times a day with more select and relaxing music
(eg the locally known violinist Toni Stricker) for the effect of special "vibrations" sprinkles. The flagship of the house is the extremely long-lived red wine cuvée "The Phantom", which is blended from Blaufränkisch
, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah and aged in French oak barrels. Other premium wines are the 38 months in barrique "Forever" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) and "Girmer" (from 50-year Zweigelt vines). In the cellar, wines are stored back to 1974, including the first phantom vintage from 1987. Annually, around 200,000 bottles of wine are produced.
