The white grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Koutsoubeli, Koutsoumbeli, Koutsoumbeli Aspro, Koutsoumbeli Kokkino, Koutsoumbeli Lefko, Koutsoumpeli, Koutsoumpeli Kokkino, Koutsoumpeli Lefko and Koytsoypeli. There are two colour varieties with white (Aspro, Beli, Lefko) and pink (Kokkino) berries. According to DNA analyses, it is a parent of the Zakynthino variety. However, the parentage is unknown. The late-maturing vine is resistant to drought and downy mildew. It is mainly cultivated on the island of Zakynthos and in the north-western Peloponnese. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
