The winery is located in the municipality of Deutschkreutz in the Austrian wine-growing region of Mittelburgenland. Viticulture has been practised in the family for generations. In 1993, Hermine and Matthias Kovacs took over the parental business and started bottling. They are assisted by son Michael. The vineyards cover over six hectares of vines on sandy loam and gravel soils with a high lime content. They are planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Müller-Thurgau and Chardonnay. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way, and all work steps up to the harvest are done by hand. Quality criteria are healthy, ripe grapes, gentle processing and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The top red wines are aged in barriques. The premium wines include Mittelburgenland DAC (Blaufränkisch), as well as the red wine cuvée "The Five Elements" from all four red wine varieties. In years with suitable weather conditions, an ice wine is also produced. Grape juice is also produced.
As honorary chairman of the Domäne Wachau, it is the easiest and quickest way for me to access the wein.plus encyclopaedia when I have questions. The certainty of receiving well-founded and up-to-date information here makes it an indispensable guide.
