Kracher Weinlaubenhof

The "Weinlaubenhof" of the Kracher family in the municipality of Illmitz is located in the Burgenland wine-growing region Lake Neusiedl (Austria). The late Alois "Luis" Kracher (1959-2007) was regarded as a pioneer of quality-oriented Austrian viticulture and clearly as the most internationally renowned Austrian winemaker. In the annual "Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide" by Robert M. Parker He was the only Austrian for many years. For quite a few experts, Kracher was the best Süßweinerzeuger of the world. The national and international awards are hard to enumerate. Among other things, he received the "Len Evans Award "for constant high performance, as well as many awards International Wine Challenge (London).

At the latter event, Kracher was voted "Winemaker of the Year" five times (1994, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001). Therefore, he also received the coveted trophy from the IWC (outstanding achievements over five years). In his honor, the "Sweet Wine Trophy" was renamed "Alois Kracher Trophy" in 2008. The foundation for this has Alois Kracher sen. (1929-2010), who recognized the potential of Seewinkel for quality winegrowing. He took care of the vineyards until the end, knew every vine and the requirements of each parcel. Gerhard Kracher is the youngest in the generation succession and has been responsible for the cellar for a long time.

Absolute specialty of the house are sweet sweet Prädikatsweine as Beerenauslese. Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein which can be found on wine lists of thousands of top restaurants worldwide. These account for about 80% of production. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards. They are 85% of the white varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muscat Ottonel and experimental plants, and 15% with the red varieties Zweigelt and experimental plants (bestockt.) The sweet wines are sorted depending on the vintage sorted and / or cuvee, this is different every year, with a strict selection of grapes with up to eight individual readings.

They are generated in two lines. Under the name "Between the Lakes" (in the broader sense also a layer designation) reductively developed wines with regional character and rather subtle Botrytistönen are produced. They are aged in large wooden barrels of 500 to 3,000 liters and remain in contact with the yeast for a long time. This results in fresh, fruity wines with primary grape aromas. The wines of the second line "Nouvelle Vague" are aged in French barriques with air exchange and correspond to wines of international style with spiciness and sustainability.

Every year around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced, a large part of which is exported. There are a number of innovative joint ventures with friendly producers. Together with Alfred Berger and Renato Zapella, red wines from purchased grapes are being produced under "The Vienna Wine Orchestra". With the California winemaker Manfred Krankl in California sweet wines under the name "Mr. K "generated. Together with Herbert Schmid from the Viennese Vierhauben restaurant "Steirereck", the blue cheese "Kracher Grand Cru" matured with a selection of berries has been developed, which is produced by Schärdinger. Beyond that wine jelly from Beerenauslese wines, as well as with the Styrian schnapps producer Gölles a pomace band and a wine vinegar produced. In 2007, the largest wine bottle in the world was filled with 480 liters of Trockenbeerenauslese (see below) bottles ). The winery is a member of Renowned wineries Burgenland,
