Kräuterberg

single vineyard in the municipality of Walporzheim in the German wine-growing region of Ahr. The name probably goes back to the Romans, who cultivated wine and herbs here. The site has long been recognised as one of the best in the Ahr. It largely surrounds the small single vineyard Gärkammer. The south-facing, terraced vineyard at 110 to 180 metres above sea level with a slope of 15 to 60% covers five hectares. The stony soil consists of weathered greywacke and slate with fine sandy loam. The main varieties cultivated here are Pinot Noir, Dornfelder and Müller-Thurgau. The wineries Adeneuer, Ahr Winzer eG, Jean Stodden, Kriechel Peter, Meyer-Näkel and Weingut Sonnenberg as well as winegrowers from WG Mayschoß-Altenahr and Weinmanufaktur Walporzheim have shares in the site.
