Origin-protected name (until 2002 Kraski Teran) for a known PTP red wine from the Slovenian Viticulture area Kras ( Primorska ). It may only be used for wines grown on a 750 hectare defined area with the particular type of soil Terra Rossa with the Slovenian name Teran to grow. The Kras Teran is made from the variety Refošk ( Terrano ) pressed. According to a hypothesis, it should be that of Pliny the Elder (23-79) mentioned ancient wine Pucinum act. The colorful, tannin-rich red wine is said to have health-promoting properties. It used to be sold as a drug in pharmacies. Well-known producers are Cotar, Lisjak and Rencel. Outside the Teran area in Primorska, the name of the wine is Refošk. The Teran area stretches across the border into Italian Friuli, where in the DOC area Carso from a smaller area the equivalent "Terrano" is produced.
