Designation of origin (until 2002 Kraski Teran) for a well-known PTP red wine from the Slovenian Kras wine region ( Primorska ). It may only be used for wines that are on a 750 hectare defined area with the special soil type Terra Rossa with the Slovenian name Teran to grow. The Kras Teran is made from the Refošk variety ( Terrano ) pressed. According to a hypothesis, it should be that of Pliny the Elder (23-79) mentioned ancient wine Pucinum act. The colorful, tannin-rich red wine is said to have health-promoting properties. It used to be sold as a "drug" in pharmacies. Well-known producers are Cotar, Lisjak and Rencel. Outside the Teran area in Primorska, the wine is called Refošk. The Teran area extends across the border into Friuli, Italy, where in the DOC area Carso from a smaller area the equivalent "Terrano" is produced.
