Krasnostop Zolotovsky

The red grape variety originates from Russia. Synonyms are Chemyl Vinnyl, Cherny Vinny, Crasnostop Zolotovsky, Krasnostop, Krasnostop Anapsky, Krasnostop Zolotovskiy and Tcheurny Vinny. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. Despite seemingly indicating synonym, it must not be confused with the varieties Plechistik or Tsimlyansky Cherny (both with synonym Cherny Vinny). The medium-maturing vine is resistant to winter frost, but susceptible to downy mildew. It yields red wines rich in tannins, acidity and alcohol with aromas of plums, cassis and green pepper. The old variety was first mentioned in 1814. Today, it is cultivated in the regions of Rostov along the Don River and Krasnodar in the southwest of the country. The area under cultivation in 2016 was 562 hectares (Kym Anderson).
