The white grape variety originates from Montenegro. Synonyms are Beli Krstač, Bijeli Krstač, Bijela Vinska, Krata Bijela, Krstač Bijela, Loza Bijela and Vinogradarska Bijela. Nothing is known about the parentage or possible genetic relationship to the red variety Krstač Crni. The name refers to the cross-like shape of the grapes (Krstač = cross). The late-ripening vine is susceptible to both types of mildew and especially to botrytis. It produces light, fresh white wines with aromas of elderflower, green apples and pears. The variety is mainly cultivated in the Podgorica area. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
