La Mondotte

The winery is located at the gates of the city Saint-Emilion (Bordeaux) in the area of the same name. It dates from the early 19th century. In 1971 it became together with the Château Canon-La-Gaffelière from the noble family of Baden-Württemberg Count Neipperg accepted. Count Stephan von Neipperg has been in charge since 1985. The original plan was to incorporate the wine from La Mondotte into the Canon-La-Gaffelière. In the latter case, however, this would have cost the classification as a "Grand Cru Classé".

Until the 1995 vintage, the wine was vinified at Château Canon-La-Gaffelière under the name "Château La Mondotte". Then large investments were made to meet the requirement of a possible classification. Since the 1996 vintage, the wine now produced in its own winery has been called "La Mondotte". To avoid confusion, the bottle, label and wooden box were created. In 2012, the company was classified as "Premier Grand Cru Classé B" (so he managed this jump directly without prior usual Grand Cru Classé classification). The vineyard covers 4.5 hectares and is planted with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). The long-lived red wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in 100% new barriques.
