Producer description of "La Mondotte"

The winery is located at the gates of the town of (Bordeaux) in the area of the same name. It dates from the early 19th century. In 1971, it was taken over by the family of Baden-Württemberg together with the . Count Stephan von Neipperg has been in charge since 1985. Originally it was planned to incorporate the wine from La Mondotte into the Canon-La-Gaffelière. However, this would have cost the classification as "Grand Cru Classé" if it had been second.

Until the 1995 vintage, the wine was vinified under the name "Château La Mondotte" at Château Canon-La-Gaffelière. Then large investments were made to meet the requirements of a possible classification. Since the 1996 vintage, the wine, now produced in our own cellar, is called "La Mondotte". In order to avoid confusion, the bottle, label and wooden case were newly created. In 2012, the estate was classified as "Premier Grand Cru Classé B" (so it made this leap directly without the usual Grand Cru Classé classification). The vineyard covers 4.5 hectares and is planted with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). The long-lasting red wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in 100% new barriques.
