La Querce

The winery (in dt. "The Oak") is located in the municipality of Impruneta 12 kilometers from Florence (province of Florence) in the Italian region Tuscany, The villa with the cellar dates from the 15th century. The property was bought in 1960 by Gino Marchi. At that time, all vineyards were renewed and started bottling the wines. The current owner is Massimo Marchi, as managing director is Marco Ferretti, as oenologist Valentino Ciarlo responsible. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyards. They are planted with the red varieties Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Merlot. The selective harvest takes place in two to three rounds with the aim of ripe and healthy grapes for the selection of different wine qualities.

There is a gentle, gentle Press so as not to hurt the grape skins. The red wines go through a controlled temperature maceration with a special form of overpumping, the so-called délestage. The premium wines include the DOCG wines Chianti Colli Fiorentini "La Torretta"; and the IGT wines "La Querce" (90% Sangiovese and Colorino, 20 months in new Allier barrique, at least 6 months in bottle) and "M" (100% Merlot, 30 months in new Allier barrique, min. 12 months in bottle). Every year around 25,000 bottles of wine are produced. Of these, 80% are exported, mainly to Germany, Switzerland, Japan, USA and Canada.
