The red grape variety originates from Portugal. The parentage is unknown. There is no connection to the white variety Palomino (with synonym Labrusco). The high-yielding vine produces rustic red wines of simple quality. The variety is cultivated in the Douro and Vinho Verde or Minho areas, where it is used exclusively for blends. In 2016, 79 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
