Lacrima

Frequent and sometimes confusing component of grape variety names or synonyms in Italy, Greece (Lacrima), Portugal (Lagrima) and South America. The name (Ital. Lacrima = tears or tears of Christ) refers to the fact that the fully ripe berries of some of these varieties release juice (so to speak, "tears are wept"). However, this is not a group of varieties, but mostly unrelated vines:

There are also wines that are called this or similar:

  • Italy: "Lacrima Christi del Vesuvio" in different variants; a type of wine of the DOC area Vesuvio.
  • Spain: "Lacrimae Christi"; a wine type of the DO area Malaga

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
