Community in the department of Aveyron in central France, which became famous for its also named, idiosyncratically shaped, slender pocket knives. This type of knife was invented in 1829 by the young blacksmith Pierre-Jean Calmels. The blade can be fixed in either open or closed position. Each knife is decorated on the handle with a bee/fly and a cross. This is considered a trademark, but is traditionally not the only motif, there are also those with a bull's head or scallop etc. Laguiole also produces noble and very expensive waiter knives (sommelier knives). The three-part set consists of a corkscrew, a crown cork opener and a small knife for removing the capsule.
