Producer description of "Laherte Frères"

The French winery is located in the municipality of Chavot-Courcourt (Département Marne) in Champagne. It was founded in 1889 by Jean-Baptiste Laherte. Today it is managed in the 5th generation by the brothers Thierry and Christian Laherte, but the 6th and 7th generation are already working in the business. The vineyards cover eleven hectares in the Vallée de la Marne and on the southern slopes of Epernay. All the varieties authorised in Champagne are cultivated, namely Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Petit Meslier and Arbane. Some of the vines are over 70 years old. The yield is limited to "4,000 kg grapes = 9 barrels". The cultivation during the vegetation cycle is carried out using traditional methods close to nature.

After the selective manual harvesting of exclusively ripe and healthy grapes, a gentle processing is carried out in the cellar using the force of gravity. The fermentation is carried out spontaneously on a parcel-by-parcel basis using the vineyard's own yeasts. The product range comprises ten different champagnes. Premium products are "Les Longues Voyes 1er Cru" (Blanc de Noirs, Extra Brut), the Rosé de Saignée "Les Beaudiers" (Pinot Meunier, Extra Brut) made from used red wine fûts (228 l) from Burgundy, the Rosé de Saignée "Les Beaudiers" (Pinot Meunier, Extra Brut) and the novelty "Les 7 Solera" (40% reserve wine, Extra Brut) made from all seven varieties.
