Lambert grape

The white grape variety originates from Germany. Synonyms are Damary Blanc, Lambertstraube, Rachenputzer and Weiße Lamberttraube. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Heunisch (Gouais Blanc) x unknown partner. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). The variety, which is presumably very old, produces very acidic white wines, as indicated by the synonym Rachenputzer. It used to be widespread in Germany, where it was often grown in mixed sets with the varieties Elbling, Heunisch, Orléans and Riesling. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (Kym Anderson).
