Landot

The French breeder Pierre Landot (1900-1942) created a large number of interspecific grape varieties in Conzieu in the Département of Ain (Rhône-Alpes region) between 1929 and 1942. These so-called French hybrids were mostly very complex crosses of Seibel and/or Seyve-Villard vines and/or among themselves. These were for example Landot 16, 204, 206, 234, 244 (is Landal Noir), 301, 304, 508, 540, 562, 709, 742, 760, 790, 1674, 1675, 1678, 1680, 2281, 2282, 2283, 2291, 2380, 2517, 2832 (is Oeillade de Conzieu), 2843, 3381, 3384, 3474, 3518, 4411, 4465, 4511 (is Landot Noir), 5400 and 6222. Many of these varieties are characterised by a high resistance to frost, phylloxera and various vine diseases, which was one of the breeding objectives. Some of them were used for further new breeding.
