Langhorne Creek

Winegrowing area (GI) south-east of Adelaide in the Australian state of South Australia, which is part of the Fleurieu zone. Around 1850, Frank Potts established the Bleasdale Vineyards here. Today the area is one of the fastest growing wine growing areas in Australia. The dry climate is characterized by the contrast of cold south and hot north winds. The necessary artificial irrigation of the sandy alluvial soils is done with the waters of the rivers Lake Alexandrina and Bremer River. The vineyards cover an area of 1,650 hectares. Red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz(Syrah) and Merlot are produced to 70%. The main white wine varieties are Chardonnay and Verdelho. Well-known producers are Bleasdale Vineyards, Bremeron Lodge, Clegett Wines, Lake Breeze Wines, Rosemount Estate, Temple Bruer and Wolf Blass.
