The winery is located near Rentsch in the municipality of Bolzano in the Italian wine-growing area of South Tyrol ( Trentino-Alto Adige region). It has been family-owned since 1893. Since 2008, the wines have been bottled in-house. From the 2014 vintage onwards, vinification takes place in the newly built cellar. The winery is run by Hildegard Egger Spögler, her son Hans Jochen and Eduard Spögler. The vineyards cover five hectares and are planted with various varieties of Vernatsch (grey, small, medium and large Vernatsch), Merlot and Lagrein, as well as Ruländer (Pinot Gris). Some of the vines are very old (Grauvernatsch, Lagrein), cultivated in double-peg systems, while younger vines are cultivated in modern trellis systems.
The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally friendly, natural way. No herbicides or fungicides are used. The product range includes various South Tyrolean DOC wines, such as Pinot Grigio, Lagrein Kretzer, Grauvernatsch, St. Magdalener "classico", Lagrein and Merlot. Premium wines are Lagrein Riserva "Rivelaun" and Merlot-Lagrein "Justinus", both of which are matured for 12 months in oak barrels. Around 25,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Part of the grapes is delivered to a winery. The winery is a member of Freie Weinbauern Südtirol and Südtiroler Weinstraße.
