Latin America

América Latina (PO)
Latijns-Amerika (N)
The term (also Ibero-America) refers to the American countries south of the USA and includes the area of South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. It therefore only refers to those countries where Spanish, Portuguese or French (languages derived from Latin) predominate. The two countries Belize and Guyana in the northeast of South America, as well as Jamaica, are English-speaking countries and generally belong to Latin America. In contrast, the English-speaking countries of the region are also referred to as Anglo-America. These are essentially the territories colonized by Spain and Portugal. From the 16th century onwards, these two countries founded the hitherto unknown viticulture in these areas. See also under wine-growing countries.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
