The Republic of Lithuania (Lietuva in Lithuanian) with its capital Vilnius is the southernmost of the three Baltic states and covers 65,300 square kilometres. The former USSR state has been independent since 1990. Lithuania borders Latvia to the north, the Baltic Sea and Russia (the enclave of Kaliningrad Oblast) to the west, Poland to the south and Belarus to the south-west. There is a small amount of viticulture. The annual wine production volume is around 32,000 hectolitres.

I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
