Little Karoo

English term for the South African wine-growing area Klein Karoo; see there.

Wine-growing region (also Little Karoo) in South Africa, stretching in an elongated form from the Breede River Valley region adjoining to the west to the coast of the Indian Ocean. The name Karoo is of Hottentot origin and derives from "kurú" (dry), which refers to the hot, dry climate with little rainfall.
