Description for the overall sensory impression of a wine in the context of a wine address. Similar terms are brittle, not accessible or not yet accessible, undeveloped, restrained and reserved. This is usually understood to mean a young wine that has yet to develop or unfold its characteristics and has not yet reached its peak. In the case of particularly long-lived top wines with great development potential, this may well take several (many) years, which is also described as "a wine with a future". However, a wine can also show itself to be closed if, after decanting (aerate), it still needs some time to develop. See ageing, bottle age ing and shelf life for information on the ageing process and drinking maturity for information on the best time to enjoy a wine.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
