Lodi

After the eponymous city named AVA area in the California region Central Valley with land in the two counties Sacramento and San Joaquin. Incidentally, the success story of a famous Californian winemaking family began in 1922 in Lodi, when Cesare Mondavi (1883-1959) moved here with his wife and children and founded a wholesale trade in grapes. In the 19th century, many German peasants settled here. The low-lying vineyards cover 24,000 hectares of vineyards on the rivers alluvial nutrient-rich and fertile soils. The most common grape varieties are the red Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Ruby Cabernet and Merlot, as well as the white Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The winemakers deliver their grapes, especially for huge wineries such as the two wine multi Constellation Brands (Centerra) and Gallo for the production of simple bulk wines.
