The winery "López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia" is located in the city of Haro in the centre of the Spanish Rioja sub-area Rioja Alta. It was founded in 1877 by Don Raphael López de Heredia y Landeta, who had previously been in the service of a French trading house. At the turn of the century, the company was considered a technological leader thanks to the application of French cellar technology. Today it is run by María José López de Heredia, now in the fifth generation of the family. The vineyards cover 170 hectares of vineyards planted with the classic Rioja varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo, Graciano, Viura(Macabeo) and Malvasía Riojana(Alarije). Once again, the same number of grapes are purchased.

The winemaking process, handed down from generation to generation, is still carried out in the traditional way. Fermentation takes place in large wooden vats (there are no stainless steel tanks), fining is done with egg white, and no filtration is used. There are 15,000 barrique barrels available for wine maturing, which are made exclusively from American oak in the in-house cooperage and are in use for decades. Among others, the brands "Viña Bosconia", "Viña Cubillo" and "Viña Gravonia" are produced, as well as the top products named after a vineyard, "Viña Tondonia Tinto" and "Viña Tondonia Blanco". In 2019, the winery took 3rd place in the World's Best Vineyards competition.
