Lorraine

The wine-growing region is located in the north-east of France between Champagne and northern Alsace, close to the border with Germany. The area goes back to the historical duchy of Lorraine. From 1960 to 2015, Lorraine, a region in its own right with the capital Metz, was formed. As part of the regional mergers, the Grand Est (Greater East) region with Strasbourg as its capital was founded from 2016 onwards, covering the areas of Alsace, Lorraine and Champagne-Ardenne. The historic landscape was once a flourishing wine-growing region. Even the Celts (Gauls) were engaged in winegrowing here before the turn of time.
