The winery is located in the municipality of Torgiano in the Italian region of Umbria. The history of this traditional family goes back 300 years. The estate was taken over in the early 1960s by the Umbrian wine legend Giorgio Lungarotti (1910-1999). In 1936 he had completed his studies in agricultural economics with a thesis on modern viticulture techniques. In the 1970s, after extensive experiments with high quality standards, he laid the foundations for the DOC classification of the Torgiano area. Today the farm is managed by his daughters Teresa Severini and Chiara Lungarotti. Lungarotti Società Agricola also owns the Azienda Agricola Stomennano, located in Tuscany

A foundation is responsible for a wide range of cultural activities and runs two museums, among others. These are "Museo del Vino" (artifacts and information about 5,000 years of wine history) and "Museo dell'Olivo e dell'Olio" (olive growing). The management is in the hands of Maria Grazia Marchetti Lungarotti. There are two production companies (estates). The wine cellar of Torgiano was built in 1962 and enlarged in the following decades. The wine cellar of Montefalco was built in 2000 in the style of a country house. The ground floor is used for celebrations and weddings. In the cellar rooms the vinification of the wines takes place.

The vineyards cover 230 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Torgiano and 20 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Montefalco. The red wine varieties Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Colorino, Merlot, Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir) and Sagrantino, and the white wine varieties Vermentino, Trebbiano Toscano, Grechetto di Todi, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris) are cultivated. Since 2014 the vineyards in Montefalco have been cultivated according to certified guidelines of organic viticulture (Bio). In the vineyards of Torgiano, sustainable cultivation is carried out according to certified V.I.V.A. rules.

The large product range includes DOC wines Montefalco, Torgiano and Torgiano Vin Santo, DOCG wines Torgiano Rosso Riserva, Montefalco Sagrantino and Montefalco Sagrantino Passito as well as IGT wines Umbria. The flagship of the house is the DOCG "Torgiano Rosso Riserva Rubesco Vigna Monticchio", made from 100% Sangiovese. After one year of fermentation and ageing in wood (50% each in large wooden barrels and barriques), the wine ages for another five years in the bottle. Other premium wines are DOCG "Montefalco Sagrantino" (100% Sagrantino; 12 months ageing in barrique; 24 months ageing in bottle), DOC Torgiano Bianco "Torre di Giano Vigna il Pino" (Vermentino, Trebbiano and Grechetto; 30% fermentation and ageing in barrique and 70% fermentation and ageing in stainless steel; 12 months ageing in bottle). 2.3 million bottles of wine are produced annually. About 45% are exported to 50 countries worldwide. Grappa, olive oil and balsamico are also produced.
