The winery is located in the municipality of Torgiano in the Italian region Umbria, The history of the traditional family goes back 300 years. The operation was taken over in the early 1960s by the Umbrian wine legend Giorgio Lungarotti (1910-1999). In 1936, he completed his agricultural studies with a theses thesis on modern viticulture techniques. In the 1970s he put up after extensive experiments with high quality standards the foundation for the DOC classification of the area Torgiano, Today the farm is run by his daughters Teresa Severini and Chiara Lungarotti.
In a foundation diverse cultural activities are perceived and operated, among other things, two museums. These are "Museo del Vino" (artifacts and information about 5,000 years of wine history) and "Museo dell'Olivo e dell'Olio" (olive growing). The management is the responsibility of Maria Grazia Marchetti Lungarotti. There are two production plants (estates). The wine cellar of Torgiano was built in 1962 and enlarged in the following decades. The cellar of Montefalco was built in 2000 in the style of a country house. On the ground floor, festivities and weddings are organized. In the basement rooms, the vinification of the wines takes place.
The vineyards cover 230 hectares of vineyards in Torgiano and 20 hectares of vineyards in Montefalco. It will be the red wines Sangiovese. Cabernet Sauvignon. Colorino del Valdarno. Merlot, Pinot Nero ( Pinot Noir ) and Sagrantino, as well as with the white wine varieties Vermentino. Trebbiano Toscano. Trebbiano Spoletino. Grechetto di Orvieto. Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio ( Pinot gris ). The management of the vineyards in Montefalco is carried out since 2014 according to certified guidelines of the Organic viticulture (Bio). In the vineyards of Torgiano becomes one sustainable Farming (Viva).
The large product range includes DOC wines Montefalco. Torgiano and Torgiano Vin Santo, DOCG wines Torgiano Rosso Riserva and Montefalco Sagrantino Passito and IGT wines Umbria. The flagship of the house is the DOCG "Torgiano Rosso Riserva Rubesco Vigna Monticchio", which is made from 100% Sangiovese. After one year fermentation and aging in wood (50% each large wooden barrel and Barrique ) the wine matures for another five years in the bottle. Other premium wines are DOCG "Montefalco Sagrantino (100% Sagrantino, aged for 12 months in barrique, matured in bottle for 24 months), DOC Torgiano Bianco" Torre di Giano Vigna il Pino "(Vermentino, Trebbiano and Grechetto, 30% fermentation and aging in oak barrels and 70% fermentation and aging in stainless steel; 12 months maturing in bottle). Every year, 2.3 million bottles of wine are produced. Around 45% are exported to 50 countries worldwide. Besides, too grappa, Walnut liqueur (Nocino), olive oil and balsamic produced.
