Maceratino

The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Bianchetta Montecchiese, Greco delle Marche, Greco Maceratino, Maceratese, Matelicano, Montecchiese, Ribona, Uva Stretta, Verdicchio Marino and Verdicchio Tirolese. According to DNA analyses, there is no relationship to the varieties Grechetto di Orvieto, Greco, Greco Bianco and Trebbiano Toscano, although some synonyms seem to suggest this. However, there is a close relationship with the variety Verdicchio Bianco. The medium to late ripening, high-yielding vine produces wines with a straw-yellow colour and almond aroma that are marked by high acidity. It is cultivated in the Marche region in the provinces of Ancona, Ascoli and Macerata. Among others, it is permitted in the DOC wine Colli Maceratesi. In 2016, an area under cultivation of 39 hectares was reported, with a downward trend (Kym Anderson).
