Magnolia

The white grape variety (also NC 60-60, North Carolina 60-60) is an interspecific new breeding between ((Hope x Thomas) x Scuppernong) x (Topsail x Tarheel). It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis rotundifolia and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in North Carolina in 1954. It was a crossing partner in the new Regalé variety. The high-yielding vine has bronze-coloured berries with different ripening times on one bunch. It is resistant to Pierce disease and moderately resistant to frost, but susceptible to botrytis. The variety produces white wines with aromas of apples and pears. It is also used as table grape. There are small areas under cultivation in the US states of Alabama, North Carolina and Texas. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
