Malat Michael

The estate is located in the village of Furth-Palt in the Lower Austrian wine region Kremstal next to the Benedictine Abbey Göttweig. The origin of the traditional owner family goes back to the year 1722. Gerald Malat has been regarded as a doyen and pioneer in Austrian viticulture since the 1970s and has been particularly interested in red wine culture in Austria Lower Austria endeavor. Among other things, he was one of the first winegrowers in Austria to meet Barrique employed. Also for the approval of the imported Cabernet Sauvignon as Quality wine-grape variety he contributed in Austria. He is also considered a pioneer of Winzer sparkling wine, Gerald Malat was also longtime chairman of the Traditionsweingüter Austria of which the winery is a member. Since 2008, the tenth-generation company has been run by son DI Michael Malat, who has been touring many vineyards in Europe and overseas throughout his studies.

The vineyards cover 50 hectares of vineyards in the vineyards Am Zaum, Brunnkreuz, Gottschelle, Hochrain, Cave ditch, Landwid, Silberbichl, Steinbühel and Zistel. They are planted to 65% with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, and to 35% with the red varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Laurent and Zweigelt.

The management is done according to the rules of Organic viticulture with ua greening and natural humus soil. The wines will be origin- and typical of the variety vinified. The premium wines include various Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner Kremstal DAC and Kremstal DAC Reserve with indication of the vineyards (see above). Already since 1976, Austria's first sparkling wines Malat Brut and Malt Brut Rosé produced according to the traditional method. In weather-appropriate years also noble sweet wines are pressed. The company's own distillery produces fruit brandies.
