Producer description of "Wein & Schnaps Mariell"

The "Wein und Schnaps Mariell" winery is located in the municipality of Großhöflein in the Leithaberg wine-growing region of Burgenland (Austria). It has been run by Gabi and Richard Mariel since 1993. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vines in the Glaggsatz, Haussatz, Krapflried, Reisbühel, Neusatz and Point am Leithagebirge sites, as well as Fölligberg and Kreuzweingarten am Föllig. They are planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt,Pinot Noir, St. Laur ent and Cabernet Sauvignon, and one third with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Gelber Muskateller, Grüner Veltliner and Sauvignon Blanc. Since 2008, the vineyards have been cultivated organically.

The wines are vinified and vinified separately, layer by layer, in order to give the wines their down-to-earth character and thus their taste, which is shaped by the terroir. The red wines mature in large wooden bar rels as well as in barriques. Depending on the variety, the white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks and acacia barrels, but also in small oak barrels. Since the beginning of the 1990s, noble brandies have also been produced according to the traditional method of double distillation. The alcohol of the distillates is produced exclusively from the sugar of the respective fruit with a correspondingly low yield. In addition, balsamic vinegar, organic grape seed oil, organic grape juice, homemade jams and chutneys (sauces) are also produced.
