The red grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Black Morocco, Black Spanish, Blauer Damascener, Blaue Geißdutte, Blaue Zwetschkentraube, Espagnin, Oliventraube (referring to the large, plum or olive-like berries), Ribier Gros and Ribier de Maroc. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it is probably a natural cross between Black Morocco x Schiava Grossa. Incidentally, the same parents also produced the varieties Bellino and Foster's White Seedling. The variety is used as table grape. No stocks were recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
