The winery "Bodegas del Marqués de Vargas" is located in the municipality of Logroño in the Spanish Rioja sub-area Rioja Alta. It is owned by the "Grupo Vinicola Marqués de Vargas". The head of the company is the aristocrat Marqués de Vargas Pelayo de la Mata. The family business also owns the two wineries Pazo San Mauro (Rías Baixas) and Conde de San Cristóbal (Ribera del Duero). The vineyards in Rioja have been in the family for generations, but the grapes have been sold. It was not until 1990 that the construction of their own cellar was started and the wines were produced by themselves. The vineyards cover 65 hectares of vines in, for example, "El Consul" and "Finca Pradolagar". Only own grapes are processed. The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way, for example by avoiding the use of chemical products such as herbicides and insecticides. The product range includes a "Reserva", a "Reserva Privada" and a "Hacienda Pradolagar Reserva" (all dominated by Tempranillo).
