The winery is located in the municipality of Montan (Montagna) in the Italian wine-growing area of South Tyrol ( Trentino-Alto Adige region). Its origins date back to 1812. In 2004 it was taken over by Nino Motta and his wife Anna Maria Vianini Tolomei. The vineyards cover 3.5 hectares of vines at an altitude of 630 metres above sea level amidst the forests of the Trudner Horn Nature Park. The white wine varieties Sauvignon (Sauvignon Blanc), Chardonnay and Manzoni Bianco, as well as Pinot Noir are cultivated. The vines are cultivated using the Guyot system. The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way with no herbicides.

The red wine is first macerated for three to four days, followed by maceration and then another one-week maceration. The best batches are selected from free-run must and a small amount of pressed must. The resulting wine matures for one year in barriques, six months in steel tanks and, after subsequent bottling, another 20 to 26 months in the bottle before being marketed. The white wines ferment and mature in steel tanks, the Chardonnay partly also in barrique.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
