The wine-growing region is located in the north-east of Hungary near the border with Slovakia, west of the Eger area. The vineyards on volcanic soil around the town of Gyöngyös cover more than 7,000 hectares of vineyards. Mainly white wines are produced. The most important white wine varieties are Chardonnay, Leányka, Olaszrizling(Welschriesling), Ottonel Muskotály(Muscat Ottonel), Rizlingszilváni(Müller-Thurgau), Sauvignon Blanc and Szürkebarát(Pinot Gris), the most important red wine varieties of Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) and Zweigelt. The market is dominated by large cooperatives, for example Danubia and Nagyréde. Other well-known producers are Bárdos és Fia, Borpalota, Németh Attila and Szőke Mátyás.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
