Mavroudi Arachovis

The red grape variety originates from Greece. Synonyms are Arachovis, Arachobitiko Mavro, Arachovitiko Mavro, Arahovitikos, Aretino Mavro Arachovitiko, Mavroudi Arachovis Noir, Mavroudi d'Arachova, Mavroudi of Arachova, Reteno, Retina, Retino (given as a separate variety in Wine Grapes ) and Ripno. The parentage is unknown. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2005, there is no (long suspected) relationship to the Bulgarian Mavrud (Mavroudi) or the Cypriot Mavro. The high-yielding vine produces colourful, full-bodied red wines, which are mostly used as blends. It is cultivated in central Greece and under the name Ritino on Euboea, Samos and other islands in the Aegean Sea. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
