The white grape variety (also Merlara) comes from Italy. It should not be confused with the morphologically similar variety Santa Maria. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. The medium to late ripening vine produces white wines with a subtle muscatel tone. It is cultivated in the province of Piacenza in the Emilia-Romagna region, where it is permitted in the DOC wine Colli Piacentini. In 2016, 1.5 hectares of vineyard area were designated with a decreasing tendency (Kym Anderson).
