The appellation, named after the village of the same name, is located in central France in the Loire wine-growing region. The vineyards with around 400 hectares of vines are located in the municipality of Menetou-Salon and nine other surrounding villages. The varietal wines are similar to those from the adjoining AC Sancerre to the east. The white wines are made from Sauvignon Blanc, the red and rosé wines from Pinot Noir. Well-known producers are Domaine de Chatenoy, Domaine Gilbert and Domaine Henri Pellé.
