Merlot Khorus

The red grape variety (breeding no. UD-31.125) is an interspecific new cross between Merlot x Kozma 20-3. It contains genes from Vitis amurensis, Vitis berlandieri, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 2002 in Italy by the breeders Simone Diego Castellarin and Guido Cipriani. Incidentally, the same parents also gave rise to the Merlot Kanthus variety. The early ripening vine is resistant to frost and both types of mildew. It is cultivated in tiny amounts in the Swiss canton Ticino. In 2016, 0.2 hectares of vines were reported (Kym Anderson).
