Meslier Noir

The red grape variety comes from France. Synonyms are Mési, Mézy, Moisi and Petit Mési. There is no connection with the white variety Meslier Saint-François. According to DNA analysis carried out in 2013, it is a presumably natural cross between Gamay x Petit Meslier. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The medium to late-maturing, high-yielding vine produces simple red wines for blending. There are only small stocks left next to Besançon in the Jura region. In 2016, however, no stocks were identified (Kym Anderson).
