Methuselah

The name of an oversized bottle for a champagne with a volume of six litres or the content of eight normal bottles. However, the name is not origin-protected, but can be used freely for sparkling wines or wines. However, the name is also used in French Burgundy for still wines with this volume. In Bordeaux, on the other hand, this bottle size is called Impériale for still wines. The Hebrew name Methuselah is derived from the biblical forefather of the same name. According to the Old Testament of the Bible, this son of Enoch and grandfather of Noah lived to be 969 years old. However, this is not necessarily to be taken literally, as it was customary at the time to add possessions, household goods, livestock etc. to the years of life. According to another version, the basis was a lunar calendar and the number refers to months rather than years. According to this version, he would have lived to be around 80 years old.
