Meursault

The municipal appellation named after the city of the same name with 364 hectares of vineyards is located in Burgundian Area Cote d'Or (Cote de Beaune). Small areas in the community Blagny also count. The place is also known as the "capital of the Burgundian white wines". In Meursault they got Cistercian from the Duke of Burgundy on Christmas day of her founding year 1098 her first vineyard as a gift. The “Paulée de Meursault” takes place annually in Meursault on the third day of the “Trois Glorieuses” (three glorious days), which goes back to the tradition of having a meal together after the vintage (see also under Hospices de Beaune and Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin ).

Mostly white wines are made Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc produced, which are among the best Burgundy and are mostly expanded in barriques. A winged word in the parish word is: "Only who drinks Meursault will never become a drunkard" . The red wines are made Pinot Noir with smaller proportions of Pinot Liébault and Pinot gris vinified. There are no classified grands crus in this area. The most important of the numerous Premiers Crus with 160 hectares of vineyards are Bouchères, Charmes, Genevrières, Goutte d'Or, Poruzot, Perrières (Grand-Cru-worthy), Pièce sous le Bois, Poruzots, Santenots and Sous le Dos d'Ane.

As a special feature, there is an Appellation Volnay-Santenots Premier Cru exclusively for red wines, which was legally regulated in 1924. These vineyards are confusingly not in the neighboring community Volnay, but in Meursault. Alternative appellations are Meursault-Blagny Premier Cru for white wines from certain locations around Blagny, Meursault-Côte de Beaune only for red wines and Meursault-Santenots for white wines from Premier Cru locations in certain areas in Volnay-Santenots. Well-known producers are Ampeau, Bichot (Domaine du Pavillon), Bouchard Père et Fils, Boyer-Martenot, Coche-Dury, Joseph Drouhin, Fichet, Grivault, Javillier, Lafon, Javillier, Jobard, Domaine Leroy, Michelot, Morey and Domaine Roulot,
