Collective name (also microbes) for microscopic, mostly unicellular organisms. These include, among others seaweed. bacteria (e.g. Lactic acid bacteria ), lots mushrooms (e.g. yeasts ) and phytoplasmas (cell wall free bacteria). It is controversial whether too virus this is because these are mostly not considered living beings and therefore not microorganisms. Microorganisms come in ground. water and air even under extreme environmental conditions such as in hot water sources and in the Arctic.
They mostly live from dead organic substances of plant and animal origin. By converting from humus in different nutrient in plant-available form, they are of great importance for plant growth and metabolism in nature.
