The appellation is located in the west of the French wine region Languedoc, It forms an enclave in the center of the AOC Minervois, The red wine was classified as AOC in 1999. It belongs to the highest quality category "Crus du Languedoc". The south-facing vineyards cover around 230 hectares of vineyards at an altitude of 220 meters. They extend over the six municipalities of Azille (in the department Aude ), Azillanet, Cesseras, Félines-Minervois, the eponymous La Livinière and Siran (in the department Hérault ). The red wine is made from at least 60% of the three main varieties Grenache Noir ( Garnacha Tinta ), Mourvèdre ( Monastrell ) and Syrah, as well as a maximum of 40% Lledoner Pelut ( Garnacha Peluda ), Carignan Noir ( mazuelo ) Cinsault. Piquepoul Noir. Terret Noir and Aspiran Noir blended. Compared to the simple Minervois, it is considered more elegant. Well-known producers are Château Cesseras, Château Laville Bertrou, Château de Gourgazaud, Clos Centeilles and Clos d'Ora.
