The winery "Vinyes i Bodegues Miquel Oliver" is located in the municipality of Petra on the Balearic capital Mallorca. It was founded in 1912 by Melchor Oliver. He was one of the first to introduce controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation of the family, his sons Jaume and Pilar Oliver. The vineyards cover 12 hectares in the DO area of Plà i Llevant. The red wine varieties Callet, Fogoneu, Manto Negro, Cabernet Sauvignon, Macabeo, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo and Syrah are cultivated, as well as the white wine varieties Prensal and Muscat Blanc. Environmentally friendly viticulture is practised. For example, herbicides are replaced by mechanical and manual methods and pesticides are kept to a minimum. The rise began when the Unión de Sumilleres Española (Sommelier Association) named the wine "Gran Muscat Miquel Oliver 1994" the best wine in the country.
