Misket Varnenski

The white grape variety is a new breed between Dimyat x Riesling. Synonyms are Muscat de Varna and Muscat Varnenski. It should not be confused with the Misket Vrachanski variety because of the similarity of names. The cross was made in 1971 in Bulgaria by the breeder K. Stoev. The late maturing vine is resistant to botrytis and winter frost. It produces riesling like white wines, which are often blended with Riesling. The variety is cultivated in Bulgaria mainly in the province of Varna in the east, and also in the province of Ruse in the north. In 2010, 336 hectares of vineyard area were declared, but in 2016 there were no more (statistics Kym Anderson).
