Mississippi

The state with the capital Jackson is located in the southeast of the USA on the Gulf of Mexico. Around half of the state's area is forest. The climate is hot with high humidity. The grape harvest already takes place at the end of July, beginning of August. Mississippi Delta is the only AVA classified, which is shared with the states of Louisiana and Tennessee. Mainly French hybrids and descendants of the American species Vitis aestivalis, Vitis labrusca and Vitis rotundifolia are cultivated. Among others, this is the historical variety Scuppernong. European varieties are only represented to a small extent. Mainly sweet white wines and table grapes are produced in the state. The wineries are spread all over the country from the coast to the Mississippi Delta. Well-known production operations are Almarla Vineyards & Winery, Aspen Wine Company, Claiborne Vineyard, Gulf Coast Winery, Old South Winery, Red Creek Inn and The Winery Rushing.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
