Missouri Riesling

The white grape variety is an open-pollinated seedling of the Taylor variety. The father variety is therefore unknown; it is possibly a Labrusca variety due to the typical taste present. Synonyms are Grein 1 and Riesling. It contains genes of Vitis riparia and possibly Vitis labrusca. In any case, it has nothing to do with Riesling. The selection and propagation of the hybrid took place around 1860 by the breeder Nicholas Grein from Hermann-Missouri. It produces wines with a weak foxtone. The variety is cultivated in New York State (Finger Lake) for sweet and also noble sweet white wines. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (stastistics Kym Anderson).
