Monastery Pforta

The "Landesweingut Kloster Pforta" is located in the municipality of Bad Kösen-Saalhäuser in the German wine-growing region Saale-Unstrut, In 1137 (one year after the founding of the monastery Eberbach in the Rheingau) could be Cistercian monks Not far from Naumburg and founded the monastery of St. Mary ad Portam (St. Mary of the Gate). The roots of today's winery go back to the Augustinian monks of the Naumburg Moritzklosters. The company was taken over by the state of Saxony-Anhalt after reunification in 1993, the vineyards were reduced and the basement and storage rooms were relocated to the historic Saalhäuser buildings in 2002. Responsible for the winery is Dr. med. Fritz Schumann, cellar master is Christoph Lindner. The vineyards cover 55 hectares in the individual layers Dechant mountain in sole ownership (Goseck), Pfortenser Köppelberg and paradise (Naumburg), Heideberg (Eulau), as well as hall homes in sole ownership (Bad Kösen).

They are with the white wine varieties Müller-Thurgau. Sylvaner. Riesling, Pinot Blanc ( Pinot Blanc ), Red Traminer. Bacchus. Kerner, White Gutedel ( Chasselas ) Blue Silvaner. Elbling, Heunisch ( Gouais blanc ) and Pinot Gris ( Pinot gris ), as well as the red wines Blue Portuguese. Zweigelt, Pinot Noir ( Pinot Noir ) André and Dornfelder planted. The management is carried out according to the rules of Organic viticulture, The large product range of wines is marketed in the three quality ranges estate wines, vineyard wines and edition wines. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and brandies are also produced (pomace, grape, fruit). Pforta Monastery is a member of "Latitude 51" ( terroir-oriented Saale-Unstrut Winzer), as well as Generation Riesling.
