The red grape variety is a new variety between Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta) x Aramon Noir. The crossing was made in France in 1960 by the ampelographer Paul Truel (1924-2014) on behalf of the INRA with the collaboration of the University of Montpellier. The late maturing, vigorous vine is relatively resistant to botrytis. It produces colourful red wines. The variety is cultivated in small quantities in the south of France in the Département of Aude. In 2016, three hectares of vineyard area were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
